I thought about saying all sorts of fancy stuff here
but instead i'll just say the Holy Bible contains
some of the most beautiful poetry ever.
I was looking at Psalm 60 a while ago and read these words.but instead i'll just say the Holy Bible contains
some of the most beautiful poetry ever.
Psalm 60:3-4
You have shewn your people hard things —
you have made us drink the wine of astonishment.
You have given a banner to those who fear you,
that it may be displayed because of the truth.
Selah (chew it over, savour it)
this song was born.
The Wine Of Astonishment
Come taste the wine of astonishment.
Ponder afresh what God’s done.
Savour each sip, and with trembling lip,
Come praise Him for Jesus His Son.
come kneel in humble amazement,
speaking aloud as you do,
praise to the King, yes, joyfully sing,
sing Him the Song that is new
Come taste the wine of astonishment.
Ponder afresh what God’s done.
Savour each sip, and with trembling lip,
Come praise Him for Jesus His Son.
linger awhile in His presence,
soak up His goodness and Love
let it permeate through, ever fibre anew,
sweet nectar that comes from above.
praise to the King, yes, joyfully sing,
sing Him the Song that is new
Come taste the wine of astonishment.
Ponder afresh what God’s done.
Savour each sip, and with trembling lip,
Come praise Him for Jesus His Son.
linger awhile in His presence,
soak up His goodness and Love
let it permeate through, ever fibre anew,
sweet nectar that comes from above.
Beautiful JB, you've said more than enough :-)
ReplyDeleteSome of the very best blog posts that I've read simple lead me to stop... think... and listen... You've done that today, thank you bro!!
New layout for the blog, right? I like it!!
I love the way you've defined "Selah" as "savor." That'll stick with me every time I read the Psalms! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly a great twist on a familiar word. Just like any musical pause, the "selah" allows the worshipper to savor the last words sung. Thanks for the reminder about Psalm 60.

I love it! Being from a musical family and having a heart for song and praise, it was a special start to my morning. :) I can hardly wait to hear it to music. Let me know if you have a link to an actual performance of this piece.
ReplyDeleteI love this Psalm, and the song that was born from it. Beautiful! I listened to both versions, and love them both. WOW. "Come kneel in humble amazement" will stick with me all day. What else can be our response to what He has done? Lovely!

Great example of the path from inspiration to execution. Peace and Blessings
ReplyDeleteExcellent examples!
ReplyDeleteGreat post - I'm with Carol on your defining "Selah" as savor - that will stick in my mind too.
ReplyDeleteThis was a nice way to tie in the word Savor with something directly from the Bible. That is a terffic song.
ReplyDeleteYou have given a banner to those who fear you,
ReplyDeletethat it may be displayed because of the truth.
Selah (chew it over, savour it)
I love it- Savor his banner, his love, his provision. Great post!
No way so cool... I like the song. I had to crank it up way loud to hear it on my computer.
ReplyDelete"Ponder afresh"... ah, yes! There's a mouthful right there.
ReplyDeleteThe Amplified Bible has this after every Selah in the psalms: [pause, and calmly think of that]
ReplyDeleteI like your definition of it better. ;)
Great song too. You have a fantastic talent for setting scripture concepts into songs.
Great definition of Selah. A very appropriate thing to look at for this month's topic.
ReplyDeleteYou've written a great song with thought-provoking lyrics. Nice one.
Your explanation of selah as "chew on this" reminds me of a radio preacher that I listen to occasionally who's show always ends with "you think about that."
ReplyDeletethanks guys

Jaybee, that was AWESOME!! Love your lyrics, the song, your "ropey" voice, all of it! Words to savor and ponder afresh as we drink the wine of astonishment. Love. Love. Love!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful prose, Jack. And just so you know, this was far better than a bunch of "fancy" stuff.
ReplyDeletebless you both
