In the Northern hemisphere Summer is almost here and as soon as the risk of frost is past gardeners will be planting out the seedlings they have nurtured in the green house for that very purpose.

In order for a seed to grow it must receive nurture.
It has to be fed and watered and kept in the right environment.
So it is with the garden of the mind.

Hosea 10:12(NIV)
Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers righteousness on you.

2 Corinthians 9:10 (NIV)
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.

James 3:13-18
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

  1. You overlooked my favorite from the NT...the parable of sower and the seed. :o( You are correct, one of the beauties of Spring is the new growth and flowers that return. Peace and Blessings

  2. Several of Jesus' parables were drawn from the farming life they were used to. That's why so many were about planting seed or harvesting. It tells us the Lord wants to nurture us and turns us into men and women of God who will do His will.

  3. Good blog on sowing and reaping - and nurturing.

  4. Growing the seeds in the safety of a greenhouse while you wait for the weather to warm up. What a good idea. It also reminds me that during the winter times in our life, we need to nurture and protect those fragile seeds by clinging to God.

  5. Good words, Jack. Not only do we have to sow good seeds, we have to keep them watered and fertilized, and once the plant grows and matures, we need to prune it to ensure its fruitfulness.

  6. Nice post to wrap up our "Nurture" month. While reading your post, I was reminded that there is time between each activity. First, break up the hard ground, remove rocks and weeds. Then place the seeds in the appropriate place and cover them. Next water and allow good amount of sunshine to cause growth, and finally the tiny plant finds it way to the light and produces "Much Fruit" It doesn't happen over night, it is a process.

  7. Very nice, Jack. :-) Isn't it amazing what one little seed can do?

  8. "So it is with the garden of the mind." I agree, Jack! For years I had a very undisciplined mind. I dwelt on whatever came to mind, and so developed a very negative aspect. So now, I nurture godly thoughts. It has taken a lot of work; I'm grateful to our Lord for His tender, patient care.
