I’m not really sure which one I like best,
I supose it depends what mood I’m in.
Apples have long been associated with the biblical account of Adam and Eve, although there is actually no mention, in fact, that the fruit in question was actually an apple.
The Apples' most recent appearance in history occurred in the 1800s in the U.S., when Johnny Appleseed&mash; a real person named John Chapman&mash; walked barefoot across a large area, planting apple trees that provided food and a livelihood for generations of settlers.
The apple tree, has spread to most temperate regions of the world. Over the centuries, many hybrids and cultivars have been developed, giving us the 7,000 varieties in the market today.
Here in the UK The National Fruit Collection is one of the largest in the world and includes over 3,500 named Apple, Pear, Plum, Cherry, Bush fruit, Vine and Cob Nut cultivars. Located at Brogdale Farm, near Faversham (Kent), the collection is owned by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is part of an international programme to protect plant genetic resources for the future.
So what have Apples got to do with Joy?
Well, when Adam joined Eve in taking a bite of the ‘Apple’ in the Garden of Eden, their Joy died.
Christians are like fruit trees.
Grafted into the Vine.
Each one when bathed in The Light, fed by Prayer and watered by the Word will produce the following fruit. love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Just like Gods word says in Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Winesap is my favorite apple! We have a Winesap tree. Those apples are the last to ripen but sooo worth the wait. When they *finally* get ripe, after all the other trees are done, that first juicy bite is pure joy. Thanks for the connection of apples and joy, even if my experiences are very different from Adam and Eve!
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome Pegg.
DeleteExcellent post, Jack! I enjoyed all the information about apples and how you tied it in to the fruit of the Spirit. That song was sweet too; I sang along. Big hug for a post well done, my brother.
ReplyDeletethanks Traci, i do enjoy the blog chain
DeleteIt is good to be reminded that as children of God we still deal with the sin nature as a direct result of the choices of Adam. Luckily Jesus has allowed access to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We must now choose to walk by the Spirit and not the Flesh.
ReplyDeletewith His help we can.

ReplyDeleteI liked the unique twist you took on this at the end. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteBig hug to you, brother.
Nice Post. Yep. The quickest and surest way for me to lose my joy is to walk in the flesh. Loved the praise song at the end! That's what it's all about! :)
ReplyDeleteJackie, wonderful Joy post and I agree that choosing to walk by sight and not by faith leads to all misery. Peace and Blessings!
